I’ve shot a number of couples that have long distance relationships. Here’s another one, Nathan’s about 6’3″ and Michelle’s about 5’4″. That’s a long distance. But that doesn’t keep this beautiful couple from being fun, romantic, lovable, and of course awesome.

This wedding started out with a traditional tea ceremony, making it the second one I’ve photographed. Definitely very interesting. My second photographer Kristen was thrilled to witness this because she’s never seen anything like this. Her energy rubbed off on me a little bit. I was getting really excited, but since it was pretty different than the last one I was pretty confused. My face was kinda blank, not knowing what to expect. I looked over at Michelle and Nathan, and they had the same look. I asked Nathan what was supposed to be happening, and he said “I have no idea.” But it turned out to be a very smooth and pleasant tea ceremony.

For those who aren’t familiar with tea ceremonies, I’ll try to break it down for you according to how this one went. Groom has to ‘pay’ his way into the house of the bride (you’ll see Nathan with his red envelopes in the photo below.) Once the groom is in they have to burn some incense sticks and be blessed by a few individuals. Then the couple has to serve tea to the elders and the kids of the family as a sign of respect. In the process they receive gifts and more red envelopes as a (wedding?) gift. I feel like I should know this, since I’m Asian, but I don’t remember them teaching me this in Chinese class.

Anyways I present the photos!

This is news that I’ve been holding back for a while, because I didn’t want to announce it until it was published. But recently I entered into the Look of Love Photography Contest associated with American Photo Magazine and also Destination Weddings and Honeymoon Magazine. and I won! I won!

I am very esctatic to tell the world that I won for the “Getting Ready” Category and received runner-up for “Couples Portrait” Category. Considering it was my first photography contest that I won, I was very surprised to win. When I got the call one morning I was speechless, it was one of those moments in life where you’re really happy and your brain has so many thoughts going on but nothing comes out of your mouth.

This is the winning photo for “Getting Ready”

So long distance + long term relationships do work! Long distance as California to Alabama.  Long term as in 6 years? I believe. Love conquers all right?

Meet Jenefel and Quentin. Jenefel’s (pronounced jen-uh-full) quite the comedian. Quentin’s (pronounced like Tarantino’s first name) one of those really nice people with out a single bone of malice in their whole entire body. It was a beautiful church wedding, and quite frankly an action packed day.

True story. I was shooting the shoes in the house, and the mother of the bride who’s quite a joker herself, told me I should shoot the shoes on the stove and in the microwave.  I replied by laughing nervously, because I wasn’t sure if she was serious or not. But then I thought to myself, maybe that might be a cool shot. I didn’t end up doing it because I thought the shot below was really really good already.

Reception: American Legion Post in West Covina

Um…there was this really awkward looking mannequin outside the house. So I decided to make it look even more awkward by putting shoes on it. But it’s so cool.

Kids as adorable as these make any wedding a lot more fun.

Let me tell you the story of the shot below. The make-up-brushes and compacts had a century long feud, and one day they decided to have one final battle on the land of the towel.  Bobby pins and nail polish were hurled at their opposing enemies for hours and hours.  This is what remains of the battlefield.

Putting the dress on can be a very, very exciting event.

Now on to the gentlemen. This isn’t the groom, but I just like this photo because it’s a very interesting photo to say the least. Haha. It’s probably not what you probably think it is.
