January 2, 2010 Acoustic Holiday Party

I wanted to throw a few photos in before the holiday season and spirit completely withers away.  This is small little Christmas acoustic ‘concert’ that I shot last week.

When Maribel and Maria have parties, they have them big. Real BIG. They rented out an entire venue for their father’s 60th surprise birthday party. There were at least 300 people there. Not impressed?

They also had TWO food vendors. My favorite being al pastor tacos (shown below). The other was a buffet line. Still not impressed?

They had an enormous bounce house for all the children to run around and use up all their energy, so they don’t bother the adults. Still not impressed? You should at least be a little bit by now. For a birthday? It’s impressive.

This is the adorable Kaylene! Last time I photographed her, she was only 1! Now she’s three, and she can say my name! I love her!

And there’s another one! That’s Kaylene’s little sister (I believe.) Super adorable!

This is Javier! It’s kinda funny, there was an older gentlemen who walked in a minute before he did and I started snapping photos of the other guy. Then I realized it wasn’t Javier.

Okay back to the amazing aspects of the party. They had a full on mariachi. I think there were 5-6 of them, I know only two of them are show in the photo.

I don’t know what these dancers are called, but there were a crew of six very talented dancers.  Still not impressed?

Well if you’re still not impressed yet..they had a full-on band/mini-orchestra in there marching around and performing on stage.

Back in my day…we had Gameboys.

So if you weren’t impressed by all that you must be a baller. And you need to invite me to your parties! But if you’re like me, I think you’ll agree that this was an incredible party filled with fun and good food.

Thanks again to Maria and Maribel!

November 15, 2009 Be The Difference Event!

Be the Difference is an event hosted and sponsored by Pacific Castle and 4cthePower, it was held at the Hacienda Center, and granted that it was the first event ever held there it had a decent turn out. Here are a few photos of the event

Opening act was Catterfly

bethedifference0031s Be The Difference Event!

This is Jamie Hardy. Her music was the really, really mellow and sad type.  It really did sound mellow and sad.

Wilson High School Cheer Team. Horray.

Best Stage Presence award goes to Vudoo Soul with his amazing vocals singing Michael Jackson and other lively songs.

The next three photos are some of my favorite from the event. They’re photos of the local highschool kids ‘breakin’ it down old skool. Being among them made me feel young sometimes, and then super old at other times.

One of my favorite artists! Clara C. She’s got soul, talent, and beauty! I look forward to doing a portrait session with her very soon!

bethedifference0294s Be The Difference Event!

To “sing your heart out” is an expression best shown by the lead singer of this band called “Seriously.” Seriously.

bethedifference0394s Be The Difference Event!

This is IZ. If you’ve never seen him teach workshops to high school kids, let me tell you, his passion for music definitely shows when he’s teaching. Seriously.

I also come to learn that a crowd can get super excited over anything that is thrown into a crowd. Be it a t-shirt (clean or sweaty), drumstick etc. etc. I think if I was ever a performer I’d throw some random trash out just to see who would try and catch it. Seriously.

bethedifference0542s Be The Difference Event!

This is IZ’s silhouette. I like this photo because it represents his leadership. Seriously.

bethedifference0554s Be The Difference Event!

Hollywood’s paparazzi has nothing compared to these kids.

bethedifference0632s Be The Difference Event!

These are the world renown “Gamblerz” an internationally winning b-boy crew with moves that not even the word ‘sick’ can be sufficient enough to describe.  Their moves are ‘deathly ill.”

bethedifference0636s Be The Difference Event!

They make this look easy.

Often imitated and never duplicated…

bethedifference0781s Be The Difference Event!

This is none other than Kaba Modern, the offspring of UCI and America’s Best Dance Crew

bethedifference0815s Be The Difference Event!

This dude below is my buddy Lawrence Kao. The day before this show, he taught a dance workshop at Glen A Wilson High school (which was where him and I graduated.) Needless to say  the teeny bopper girls were so excited to see him that they formed a line to take photos with him. I was the guy that all the girls handed their camera to to take a photo of him. Yay. icon sad Be The Difference Event!

But this one, I liked. It was sweet, funny, and heartwarming. Ugh, I sound like woman.  The movie is called Passport to Love, it’s a foreign film which made me like it a little bit more. In fact, I liked it so much I uncomfortably sat during the entire movie even though I had a strong urge to pee before I even walked in. I must’ve crossed my legs in ways that I never knew I could. But it was so worth it.

Apparently the movie did really well in Vietnam, and is making its debut in America. Props to my friend Michelle Ngo, who helped put the movie together. Come to think of it, I’m not actually sure what she did, but if I were to guess it would have probably been assistant producer.  Her name flashed in the beginning of the film (when the credits sometimes roll at the beginning of movies) but the whole movie was it Vietnamese so I couldn’t really understand.

passport2 I generally don't like chick flicks...

So I shot the premier of the movie which was not all that interesting to be frank.  There were a bunch of actor’s and actresses I wasn’t familiar with at all, and I’ve never seen any of them before so I couldn’t even say “oh you were wonderful in the last movie I saw you in.”  It was just a lot of pretty people walking back and forth in front of me while I just can sat in the shadows, kind of reminiscent of the I went to dances back when I was in middle school. But after seeing the movie, I felt like I knew all the actor’s and actresses like I’ve known them for my whole life.  Still, I didn’t really talk to any of them, because I don’t think many of them speak English very well.

Before I knew it I was taking photos of people with a camera that didn’t belong to me. And I had it in my hands for a really long time, no one asked for it back. Then finally one of the pretty actresses came up to me to take her camera back, she probably thought I was trying to steal it.  The only thing I manage to blurt out of my mouth was “Oh, I didn’t know whose camera this was,” before she took it out of my hands and walked hastily away from me.  Well, at least now I could say I talked to one of them icon smile I generally don't like chick flicks...
