I’ve had my really silly couples (Kwong and Polly), really funny couples (Matt and Britt), and now I present to you my most quirkiest couple Kim and Newton. Being quirky’s not a bad thing, mind you, I’m very quirky
The day started off with me heading to Kim’s place. Now, usually I start off with a lot of the detailed shots and getting ready shots, but Kim was already all made up with her dress on and ready for photos… by herself. No flowers, no bridesmaids, just Kim with a big smile on her face and antsy feet. I’ve never had such an eager bride wanting to take photos. I thought that was both interestingly funny and flattering. At that point, I knew it was going to be a good day. Our first destination the Disney Concert Hall.
Here are my thoughts about the Disney Concert Hall: it is one of the coolest examples of modern architecture in Los Angeles. It’s also one of the most-used spots for wedding/engagement photographers, which is why I’ve been trying to avoid it for the longest time. But this day, I confronted it. And you know what, I actually really liked the way my shots turned out. The bluish tones from the curved metallic walls were a nice contrast to Newton’s striking pink tie/vest. Now that I’ve gotten some really cool Disney Concert Hall photos, I think I’m going to try and avoid this place even more
There’s only a few men in the world that can pull off pink. I know I can’t, but Newton certainly can, and he sports it well! Newton was flashing a nice pink tie and vest as well as a pinkish purplish framed glasses on his wedding day. This guy’s got style and a huge dose of quirkiness. I’ll admit that I didn’t realize how quirky he was until I photographed his wedding. Now if weddings were an accurate reflection of the couple, I definitely say that it holds true for Kim and Newton. Let me explain. Their reception was held in a basketball gym, and they had the chicken dance, lion dancing (Newton being one of the performers), an African drummer dressed in traditional garbs playing a djembe, and an accordion player. Talk about eclectic, random, and quirky right? In any case, they’re a seriously cool couple. They bike. I bike. I like.
