Archive for Dec 2009

First, I’d like  to apologize for my lack of blogging in the last couple of weeks. It’s been as crazy as crazy can get over holidays, I’ve been doing anything and everything from last minute orders, hanging out with family, and friends, and last but not least shopping!

Speaking of a shopping. I am a shopaholic, shopping for other people is just an excuse for me to go out and shop. And when that happens I usually end up buying stuff for myself. It’s terrible, I know. But don’t pretend like you don’t do it. On a side note, I haven’t had to do any math since college, and my math skills are deteriorating every day. I used to be quick and sharp with math, but now I’m just slow and confused. Until today, I got my groove back while Day after Christmas shopping. Suddenly, I’m able to calculate final costs after 40,50, 60 etc. percent discounts and adding taxes quickly and accurately (to the dollar).

These are some photos of fun in the snow!

This last photo is of me. For some reason I didn’t think it was going to be really cold.  So I went pretty underprepared. The coldness kicked my ass pretty good.  What you see is here me wearing two backpacks (front and back) for insulation because that jacket I’m wearing is pretty much all I got.  The beanie and front backpack was borrowed from Rosalva, my girlfriend.

This is Bridget and James! And this is also my last wedding for 2009. It was a small wedding, and a nice change from the larger weddings that I’m used to. Less people means less stress icon smile Meet Bridget and James (Wedding)

So for almost every wedding I can always pick out something that I haven’t seen at other weddings. For example for one wedding there was a moon bounce and s’mores at the reception. This other wedding was held inside a museum, and as an art-lover I thought that was fantastic.  There was another wedding where the bride was covered from head to toe and wasn’t able to see anything until the end of the ceremony since it was an orthodox Jewish wedding.

For this wedding, there was a big ‘first’ for me.   This was the first wedding that the bride made her own dress. Pretty impressive I’d say. I’m able to hem my own pants, and I thought I was good. But I got nothing on making dresses, let alone a wedding dress.

December 12, 2009 Life on the wild side.

…or in other words, wildlife.

I mentioned earlier in a previous post that Dr. Stephen Chen, my dentist is a photographer too. He likes to shoot wildlife, so we’ll go shoot wildlife together, these are some photos from a recent trip.

Stephen said this egret (below) looked like it was doing tai chi. ha! he’s a funny man.

This guy thought he could camouflage himself in the trees to hide from me. This little bird sucks at camouflage.

This bird below is what I believe a North American Mallard. The same kind of ducks you used to shoot in Nintendo’s Duck Hunt.

I have  almost an exact replica of this in a painting form that I painted when I was younger.

This is the big bad wolf. Or maybe it’s a coyote, and it’s not that big. He looks pretty haggard, I have some friends that look like this on the weekends.

This is a continuation of my SAF (shoot a friend)  Project. This is Dr. Stephen Chen, and he’s my dentist.  Technically, I guess this should be labeled shoot a dentist, but the acronym would then be SAD, and that’s sad.
So in this shoot, I wanted the concept to be for my dentist to be the dentist. I thought it was quite amusing. I had a lot of fun telling him what to do, because usually he’s the one telling me what to do.
He’s also an amazing dentist and a great person.  Since he has had a very successful dentistry for a really long time, I asked him for advice for someone who’s starting their own business (me, basically) and this is what he said.

-Maintain good quality in your service.
-Listen to your clients so you can understand what they need/want.
-Don’t think that your way is the only way. If a client wants something done in another way, make your suggestions but do not dismiss what a client wants.
-Instead of complaining, fix the problem.
-Finish your deadlines on time. Make good on your promises.
-Client referrals give the best business.
-All businesses take time. It’s hard in the beginning, but your must persist.
-Be happy about yourself, and your others will be happy too.

It’s not word for word on what he said, I had to do some translating and rewording because he was speaking in Chinese some of the time.
